Using TownDrafts on Apple Mail

Drafts on Apple Mail

When your assistant prepares a reply, it saves the draft in your inbox, on the original thread — so it’s easy to find and review. Nothing is sent until you review the draft and send it yourself.

Most mail apps show these clearly as drafts. Apple Mail — along with other IMAP-style apps like Outlook and Thunderbird — renders them differently: a draft can appear in the thread as though it were an already-sent email. It hasn’t been sent.

Why drafts can look sent

Apple Mail displays every message it finds on a thread inline, including the draft your assistant left in your inbox. Because the draft sits on the thread, Apple Mail shows it in the conversation as if it had already gone out. The recipient has received nothing.

How to review and edit a draft

  1. In Apple Mail, open the Drafts folder for the account the reply is from.
  2. Select the draft you’d like to edit.
  3. Make any changes you’d like — the wording, the recipients, and attachments are all yours.
  4. When it looks right, hit Send. Until you do, it stays a draft.

Town never sends an email or message without your permission. Advanced, opt-in features like trusted contacts let you grant that permission ahead of time for specific people you choose — and even then, a draft sitting in your Apple Mail Drafts folder has not been sent.
