Box
Connect Box and your assistant can find, read, and summarize your files — search folders and files, open documents and previews, and pull comments, metadata, and collaboration details — so anything in your Box account becomes usable context without you digging for it.
The connection is read-only. Your assistant can search and read what’s in Box; it doesn’t create, edit, move, or delete files there.
What’s included
With Box connected, your assistant can:
- Search files and folders — by name, keyword, or metadata
- Browse folder contents — list what’s inside any folder
- Read file content — open and read documents to answer questions or summarize
- Read file and folder details — size, owner, dates, and other properties
- Read comments — see the discussion on a file
- See collaborations — who a file or folder is shared with
- Read metadata — inspect metadata templates and the values on a file
- Preview files — pull a file preview or a specific preview page
Connecting Box
- Go to Integrations
- Find Box and click Connect
- Authorize Town in Box (sign in when prompted)
- Return to Town
Town connects through Box’s official MCP server (mcp.box.com) using Box’s sign-in — no API keys or setup. Your assistant is limited to the files and folders your Box account can already access, and you can revoke access anytime from Box settings.

Use cases
Find the right file fast
Stop hunting through folders:
- “Find the signed MSA for Acme in Box”
- “What’s in the Q3 board folder?”
- Search by keyword or metadata when you don’t remember the file name
Read and summarize
Turn a document into an answer:
- “Summarize the vendor contract in Box”
- Pull the key terms from a file without opening it
- Answer a question from a report stored in Box
Bring Box into your other work
Fold file context into everything else:
- Add the relevant Box document to a meeting brief
- Combine a Box file with your email and calendar in one request
- Check who a folder is shared with before you send a link
Example routine
A routine that answers questions from your Box files:
When I ask about a document:
1. Search Box for the file by name or keyword
2. Read the file content
3. Answer my question or summarize the key points
4. Note which file the answer came fromBest practices
Point to the right folder. If a search is too broad, name the folder or add a keyword so your assistant reads the file you mean.
Read-only by design. Box is for finding, reading, and summarizing. To create or change files, work in Box directly.
Troubleshooting
Can’t connect
- Make sure you’re signing in to the correct Box account
- Complete Box’s authorization screen and return to Town
Can’t find a file
- Verify the file or folder exists and your Box account can access it
- Try a keyword or metadata search instead of an exact name
- Check that the content isn’t in a folder you don’t have access to
Can’t read a file
- Very large files or unsupported formats may not read fully
- Confirm your Box permissions allow viewing the file
