Need to Know & Suggestions

Your home screen doesn’t just wait for you to ask — it surfaces what’s worth your attention right now. Two surfaces do this:

  • Need to Know — heads-ups your Townie thinks you should be aware of. These are informational: a flag that something changed, someone’s waiting on you, or a deadline is coming up.
  • Suggestions — proposed actions your Townie offers to take for you, like drafting a reply, prepping for a meeting, or following up with someone who’s gone quiet. One click turns a suggestion into a task.

Think of Need to Know as “here’s what’s going on” and Suggestions as “want me to handle this?”

What they draw on

Both are built from what’s already connected to your Townie — nothing you have to feed it manually:

  • Email — threads that look like they need a reply or a decision.
  • Calendar — upcoming meetings worth prepping for.
  • Slack and other connected tools, where available.
  • What your Townie knows about you — the people and topics that matter to you, so the same inbox produces suggestions personalized to you.

Each card shows where it came from — an envelope for an email, a calendar glyph for a meeting, and so on — so you can see why it surfaced and jump straight to the source.

Acting on a card

  • Open it to see the detail and its sources.
  • Start it to hand it to your Townie as a task — from there it works like any other task.
  • Dismiss it if it’s not useful. There’s a short window to undo right after.

Seeing fewer of the ones you don’t want

When you dismiss a suggestion, you can tell your Townie why — for example “less like this,” “suggestions about this person,” or “about this topic.” It uses that to show you fewer like it.

You can also tune things from the Suggestions settings:

  • Turn a category off (e.g. hide a whole type you never act on).
  • Add guidance for what you want to see more or less of.
  • Clear a saved dismissal reason if you change your mind later.

Need to Know and Suggestions update through the day as new things come in, so the list changes over time. Because your Townie rebuilds them from your latest activity, a card can occasionally reappear for something you’ve already handled somewhere else — for example an email you already replied to in your own mail app. Dismissing it (or acting on it) clears it.

  • Tasks — What a suggestion becomes once you start it
  • Routines — Repeatable jobs your Townie handles on a schedule or trigger
  • Context & Memory — How your Townie learns what matters to you
