Routines

Routines are repeatable jobs your Townie handles behind the scenes.

You already have manual work routines — checking your inbox every morning, prepping before meetings, logging invoices when they arrive. Town lets you hand those off.

What is a routine?

A routine is something your Townie handles for you automatically, on repeat, without you asking each time. You set it up once, and it just runs — quietly taking the recurring stuff off your plate.

You tell your Townie when it should run and what you want it to do, in plain language — “every morning at 8am, send me a short rundown of my day.” And because it already knows you, the result is personalized from the start: your morning rundown highlights the people and topics that matter to you, not a generic summary.

You’re always in control of how much a routine does on its own. You can have it run completely hands-off, or have it check with you before it sends or acts — and you can turn any routine off whenever you like.

Here are some examples of routines:

  • Your morning rundown — a quick brief each morning with your calendar, the emails that actually need you, and anything you said you wanted to stay on top of.
  • Inbox tidy-up — quietly sorts and labels new email as it lands, and clears out the newsletters and noise so your inbox stays calm.
  • Reply drafts, ready and waiting — when an email needs a response, a draft in your voice is sitting there waiting for you to review and send.
  • Never walk in cold — before each meeting, a short prep note on who you’re meeting, your history with them, and what’s worth raising.
  • Stay close to the people who matter — a nudge when it’s been a while since you talked to a key contact, so nothing important slips.

Start with what’s already built

Town comes with a library of stock routines ready to go. Enable one, and it works immediately — no setup required.

Morning Briefing prepares you for the day ahead, complete with email, schedule and updates. Auto-inbox triages your inbox. Meeting Briefing preps you before calls.

These aren’t templates. They’re routines that learn how you work from day one.

Build your own in conversation

You can also build your own custom routine; just describe what you want in the chat and your Townie builds it.

Every Friday, check which prospects haven’t replied this week and draft a warm follow up.

That’s a real instruction. Your Townie will then work with you to pick the trigger, select the right tools, and write the logic. You can run it, see what happens, and iterate from there — “make the tone more casual,” “skip anyone who replied on LinkedIn,” “run it every Wednesday instead.”

You don’t fill out a form. You have a conversation.

You control how much it can do

Every routine has a dial to set the trust.

Read-only means your Townie can look but not touch anything. Approval-required means it does the work, then pauses and asks before executing. Autonomous means it just handles it, no waiting.

You can mix these within a single routine. A payment tracker might log to a spreadsheet autonomously but wait for your approval before sending a nudge about an overdue invoice. Most people start with approval-required and promote to autonomous once they trust the behavior.

Each routine gets sharper

As you give feedback — “don’t archive emails from that sender,” “include the project timeline, not just the status” — your Townie remembers. The instructions tighten. The output improves.

Your routines will start to work exactly the way you would.

Your Townie gets better at suggesting these over time. The more you work together, the more it notices the things you do over and over — and offers to turn them into routines for you. You’ll find those recommendations on your Routines page, where you can turn one on with a click, tweak it, or describe a brand-new one of your own.

Start one now

Go to Routines, browse what’s there, and enable one that matches work you’re already doing manually. Or describe what you want in the chat and let your Townie build it from scratch.
