Google Docs integration FAQ
Town's Google Docs integration connects your documents through Google's official sign-in — one click, no setup. Your Townie can search your Drive, read your docs and their comments, and — with your approval — create new Google Docs and edit existing ones: appending sections, rewriting passages, and fixing what a comment asked for, right in the doc.
Town only touches your Docs when you (or a routine you configured) ask for it, and access is scoped to the Google account you connect. Every new doc and every edit waits for your approval before it lands. Read more about how Town approaches security.
By default, no — new docs and every edit are held for your approval before they land. Docs that other people rely on get extra care: when a document is shared, Town always asks before writing to it.
The Drive of the Google account you connect. Under the hood these are Town's Google Docs tools: search Drive files, read docs and their comment threads, create new docs, and, with approval, update existing ones — append or rewrite sections, find and replace, insert tables and images, and manage tabs.
You need a Google account — Docs is free, and Google Workspace accounts work too — and a Town account, free to start. The Google Docs connection works on every Town plan.
Gemini helps you write while you're sitting in the doc. Town works when you're not there — pulling from your email, calendar, and meetings, drafting into Docs on a schedule, and holding every change for your approval. Connected, the doc is already written when you open it.
What is Google Docs?
Google Docs is where teams write together — the shared drafts, briefs, and plans of the working world, edited by everyone at once and always up to date in the browser.
Docs holds the writing; Town does the drafting. Connected, meeting notes become shareable docs, the updates you owe draft themselves in your voice, and the edits you keep deferring show up done, waiting for your approval.
