How to connect Xero to Town

  1. Open Integrations in Town

Go to Integrations in your Town workspace (free to create) and find Xero.

  2. Authorize the connection

Sign in to Xero when prompted and pick the organisation to connect. Anything Town creates or emails in Xero waits for your approval. Nothing to install or configure.

  3. Put your ledger to work

Done — invoices drafted on the first, who owes you answered on demand, and month-end prepped for your accountant.

Just ask your Townie

Xero holds the ledger. Town gets the invoices out, watches what's owed, and preps the month-end handover, without opening a tab.

  • “Has Harrow Lane paid the May invoice?”

Answered from your Xero invoices, with amount and due date.

  • “Credit Fernhill £400 on the June invoice.”

Drafted as a credit note in Xero, held for your approval.

  • “How did June look?”

Cash in, cash out, and closing balances, pulled from your Xero bank summary.

Xero integration FAQ

Town's Xero integration is a secure connection to your Xero account. Your Townie can read your invoices, contacts, credit notes, and bank summary, and can draft new sales invoices, bills, payments, credit notes, and contacts — every write, including emailing an invoice, waits for your approval. You authorize it from Town's Integrations page by signing in to Xero; no API keys or setup.

Town only reads Xero data when you (or a routine you configured) ask for it, and access is scoped to the organisation you connect. Anything Town creates or emails — an invoice, a credit note, a bill — waits for your approval first. Read more about how Town approaches security.

No. Reading happens on demand, and every write — a sales invoice, a bill, a payment, a credit note, a contact, a bank transaction, even emailing an existing invoice — pauses for your explicit approval before it touches Xero. Reconciliation and reporting stay in Xero itself.

Your invoices, contacts, credit notes, tracking categories, and bank summary, read on demand. Under the hood these are Town's Xero tools: list and find invoices, get invoice details and online invoice links, list contacts and credit notes, and get the bank summary — plus approval-held tools to create sales invoices, email invoices, and create bills, payments, credit notes, contacts, and bank transactions. Payroll, expense claims, and full financial reports aren't covered.

You need a Xero account and a Town account — free to start. The connection works with any Xero business plan, and if you run more than one Xero organisation, you pick which one to connect. Works on every Town plan.

Xero is your accounting system — invoices, bills, bank reconciliation, and the reports your accountant lives in. Town is an AI assistant that acts on it: the month's invoices get drafted, the receivables get tracked, and month-end gets prepped, across your inbox and calendar.

What is Xero?

Xero is cloud accounting software built for small businesses and the accountants and bookkeepers who look after them. Born in New Zealand and a fixture across the UK, Australia, and beyond, it handles invoicing, bills, bank reconciliation, and the reports behind the monthly close.

Xero keeps the books; Town does the busywork around them. Connected, your invoices, contacts, and bank activity become context your assistant can act on — invoices drafted, receivables tracked, and month-end prepped, with every change held for your approval.
