X integration FAQ
Town's X integration is a read-only connection to your X account, authorized through X's official sign-in. Your Townie can read your mentions, home timeline, bookmarks, and likes, look up posts and profiles, and search recent public posts, then draft replies and posts in your voice for you to review and publish. No API keys or setup.
Town only reads from X when you (or a routine you configured) ask for it, and the connection is read-only — Town can't post, like, follow, or see your DMs. Anything it drafts from your feed waits for your review. Read more about how Town approaches security.
No — Town never posts, replies, likes, or follows on your behalf. It drafts replies and posts in your voice and leaves them with you: you give each one a final read and publish it yourself. Your account only ever says what you chose to say.
Your mentions, home timeline, bookmarks, and likes, plus public posts and profiles. Under the hood these are Town's X tools: read mentions, read your home timeline, read bookmarks and likes, read a user's posts, look up posts and profiles, and search public posts from the last 7 days. DMs are never accessible.
You need an X account and a Town account — free to start. Town connects through X's official API, so there's nothing extra to buy from X, and the connection works on every Town plan.
Checking X gives you the firehose. Town gives you the work product: mentions triaged to what actually needs you, replies drafted in your voice, and your feed folded into the same brief as your email and calendar — so you stay present on X without living in it.
What is X?
X (formerly Twitter) is the real-time public conversation — where launches get announced, industries argue, and your customers say what they really think, first.
X is where the conversation happens; Town keeps up with it for you. Connected, your mentions get triaged, replies and posts get drafted in your voice, and the feed becomes a brief instead of a time sink.
