The new Town: a Townie named Mara at the top of the sidebar, above groups and recent chats, and the group chat “Plan the team offsite” open beside it, where teammates and their Townies settle the plan until Mara replies “All set: pottery at 10, lunch at noon. $1,020 total.”

A simpler way to work with your Townie

Town looks different today.

We redesigned it around something we’ve learned from watching people work with their Townies: the easiest way to get something done is to just talk to them.

You shouldn’t have to decide where something belongs, choose the right feature, or set up a workflow before your Townie can help.

Just tell your Townie what you’re working on.

That’s the idea behind the new Town.

One place to start

When you open Town, you’ll now land in your main thread.

Think of it as the place where you and your Townie coordinate your day.

Ask them to find something. Sort out your schedule. Check on work already underway. Start a new project. Or tell them what you’re working on and ask for help.

You don’t need to figure out where to go first. Start with your Townie, and they’ll organize the work from there.

Your Townie organizes the bigger stuff

Some things only take a minute. Your Townie can handle those right in your main chat.

Other things take time.

Ask your Townie to research a new market, plan a launch, prepare for a customer meeting, or put together a proposal, and they can move that work into a thread.

A thread gives you and your Townie a dedicated place to keep working on something without filling up your main chat. Your Townie can keep going there while you move on to something else.

You can jump back in whenever you want more detail, need to give direction, or want to see everything that happened.

Then head back to your main chat and keep going.

You don’t have to manage Town

This is the bigger reason we changed the interface.

As Townies have learned to do more, we don’t think you should have to learn more about how Town works.

You shouldn’t have to think, Should I start a thread? Which tool should I use? Where did that project go?

That’s your Townie’s job.

Tell them what you need. They can decide how to organize the work, use the right tools, and bring back what needs your attention.

Your job is to talk to them.

And soon, there’s more you can do together

The new design also gives us a much better foundation for work that involves other people.

You can already bring teammates into a thread, and their Townies can join them. When you add someone, you decide how much access they and their Townie have. Give them more access when you’re working closely together, keep things limited when you’re not, and change it anytime as the work changes.

Your Townie knows your side of the work. Their Townie knows theirs. Together, they can help everyone coordinate across the same conversation.

We’re going to keep making this more intuitive and more powerful.

For now, the most important thing to know about the new Town is also the simplest:

Start by talking to your Townie.

Tell them what you need.

They’ll organize the work from there.
