How to connect Jira to Town

  1. Open Integrations in Town

Go to Integrations in your Town workspace (free to create) and find Jira.

  2. Authorize the connection

Sign in with your Atlassian account when prompted. Town connects to your Jira Cloud site, and every change it proposes waits for your approval. Nothing to install or configure.

  3. Put Jira to work

Done — ask about any issue or project in plain English, and say what to file: your Townie creates, assigns, comments, and moves issues, holding every change for your approval.

Routines that use Jira

Ready-made routines from the Town library, built on Jira. Install one and tailor it to how you work.

Just ask your Townie

Jira is where big teams run the process. Town feeds it, chases it, and translates it, so you spend less time inside it.

  • “What's still open and unassigned in the payments project?”

Your Townie writes the JQL and answers from live issues.

  • “Catch me up on PLAT-482.”

Comments, status changes, and who's on it, summarized before your next meeting.

  • “File this thread as a bug in the mobile project.”

Filed with the details attached, held for your approval.

Jira integration FAQ

Town's Jira integration is a secure connection to your Jira Cloud account, authorized through Atlassian's sign-in. Your Townie can search issues with JQL, read issue details and comments, and browse projects and people — and, with your approval, create issues, add comments, assign work, and move issues through your workflow. You connect it from Town's Integrations page; no API keys or setup.

Town only touches Jira when you (or a routine you configured) ask for it, and access is scoped to what your Atlassian account can see. Nothing is written to your projects without your approval. Read more about how Town approaches security.

By default, no — new issues, comments, assignments, and status changes are held for your approval before they land, so the tracker your whole team runs on never moves without you seeing it. If you want a routine to run more autonomously, you opt in per routine.

The projects and issues your Atlassian account can see. Under the hood these are Town's Jira tools: search issues with JQL, read issues and their comments, and list projects, people, and workflow transitions; and, with approval, create issues, add comments, assign work, and transition issues. Town doesn't edit existing issue fields beyond assignee and status, and there's no delete — it can't remove issues or projects.

You need a Jira Cloud account — the free plan works — and a Town account, free to start. The Jira connection works on every Town plan. Self-hosted Jira Server and Data Center aren't supported.

Atlassian Intelligence works inside Jira. Town works across your whole stack — your calls, inbox, and calendar plus the tracker — so tickets get filed from what happens outside Jira, and status reaches the people who never open it.

What is Jira?

Jira is Atlassian's issue tracker — the system of record where large software teams run their work: projects, sprints, workflows, and the backlog, at company scale.

Jira holds the process; Town feeds it and translates it. Connected, your calls become tickets with owners, idle work gets chased, and status turns into plain English for everyone outside the standup.
